Last weekend I had the privilege to attend a very special birthday celebration.

RDU Baton Tomorrow! | Raleigh Family Photography

I am excited to say that tomorrow, Friday the 7th, I will be carrying the RDU Baton.

What is RDU Baton?  “RDU Baton is a collaborative photo project to show the world (and to remind ourselves) how amazing life in the Research Triangle is, through Instagram.”

The very best camera to have is … the one you have WITH you.

In most cases that’s our phone camera.  I L O V E my iPhone because I never have to miss a moment.

There are a many apps out there that can  help you create better pics with your phone.

My favorites are:

Camera +

Allows you to pick your focus point, among a million other great things.  Take some time to explore & play.

This was picture of my daughter was taken with this app (unedited).

I touched the screen on her left eye, and you can see the sharp focus that resulted.

TimeCamera

For when YOU need to be in the picture.

Adjustable countdown up to 15 seconds, and it ‘beeps’ every second of the countdown so you know when the shutter will click!

Snapseed

By far the best editing app out there.  Again, take some time to play with this one.

I will do a blog post just on Snapseed in the near future.

In this digital age ,more often than not your first impression is made online.

Whether it be Linkedin, your business website or even a dating site.

I am available to hire for head shots, in case you were ever wondering!

I thought I would share a sampling of my head shot work with you today.  Some traditional, some not.

Here’s a recent head shot session from this month,  taken at the clients home.

(I wish I had taken a drop back image.  Very similar set up I wrote about in THIS natural light tutorial.)

To plan this session we used Pinterest together so that I could visualize the type of image she wanted to capture.

Professional and approachable.

Think we nailed it!

Last year I was hired by Novartis for a two day head shot marathon.  The days flew by, really nice staff there & easy to work with!

Every March I have the pleasure of photographing the current staff – we bring in hair & make-up and have a really fun girl morning :)

Whew!  We made it through a heavy dose of winter these past weeks.

I don’t know about you, but as fun as the sledding and snowman building was, I am ready for some warmer temps!

I am exited to announce my Spring mini sessions for this year :

 Friday, April 11th and Saturday, April 12.

Location is TBA – I like to be able to scout the prettiest location closer to date.  Have a few new spots in mind :)
